Number Anomalies

A. Hypodontia (Missing Teeth)

Classifications:

• Hypodontia: 1-6 missing teeth
• Oligodontia: >6 missing teeth
• Anodontia: Complete absence

Most commonly missing:

1. Third molars (wisdom teeth)
2. Maxillary lateral incisors
3. Mandibular second premolars

B. Hyperdontia (Supernumerary Teeth)

Types:

• Mesiodens: Between central incisors
• Paramolar: Buccal/lingual to molars
• Distomolar: Distal to third molars

Size Anomalies

A. Microdontia

• Localized: Single tooth affected
• Generalized: All teeth smaller
• Most common: Maxillary lateral incisors, third molars

B. Macrodontia

• Less common than microdontia
• Usually localized
• May cause crowding

Shape Anomalies

Common Shape Variations:

1. Peg-shaped teeth: Usually lateral incisors
2. Shovel-shaped incisors: Lingual ridges
3. Mulberry molars: Syphilis-related
4. Talon cusp: Extra cusp on incisors
5. Dens in dente: Tooth within tooth
